Deputy foreign post for Hopkins

By Press Gazette

Guardian crime correspondent Nick Hopkins has been promoted to deputy foreign editor.

He replaces Amelia Gentleman, who moved to Paris to reinforce the paper’s coverage of France.

Hopkins began his journalism career on local newspapers before he joined the Daily Mail as Midlands reporter in 1994.

He joined The Guardian as a news reporter in 1998 and became the paper’s crime correspondent in 1999. He was part of the team that won two awards for the Peter Mandelson “Home Loan” story.
