Philip Osborn, who was northern sports news editor of the Daily Express throughout the Eighties and Nineties and also wrote the newspaper’s pools columns under the name The Banker, has died at the age of 70.
After leaving the Express, Osborn wrote football reports for the Daily Star.
He then became editor of the London free Docklands News before launching his own paper, Newmarket Xtra, which targeted the racing community in the Suffolk town.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, 5 October at 2.30pm at St. Mary’s Church, Little Sampford, North Essex.
