Coventry campaign win

By Press Gazette

The Coventry Telegraph has won a campaign to get car parking charges at a local hospital scrapped.

The paper launched the campaign after bosses announced that disabled people would have to pay up to £9 a day for parking.

A petition was launched and reporter Hannah Murdoch wrote a high-profile story each day. Three Coventry MPs also gave their support to the campaign, along with national disabled people’s organisations.

Editor Alan Kirby said: “This is a victory for our readers and for common sense. It is questionable whether anyone should have to pay to park at a hospital, but profiteering from disabled people is outrageous.”
