What you won’t read in the Mirror

In his Daily Mirror column on Thursday, Brian Reade rightly laments that the media gave plenty of coverage to Sir Trevor McDonald’s decision to stand down from his job at ITN but barely mentioned the sacking of 429 journalists – ‘unsung grafters who gather the news’– at ITV’s regional operation.

‘This is how screwed up our celebrity world has become,’Reade concludes.

Fine words, and let’s hope the news desk at the Mirror reads them.

A search of the news archive at mirror.co.uk reveals not one mention of Trinity Mirror’s recent announcement that it plans to make 65 journalists redundant at the Birmingham Mail and its sister titles in the Midlands.

Screwed up indeed.
