The British Journalism Awards tonight provide a timely reminder that British journalism is an extraordinary force for good

The UK's leading journalists working across print, broadcast and online will gather tonight at Stationers' Hall for the first Press Gazette British Journalism Awards.

The event aims to promote and celebrate great journalism which is interesting to the public AND in the public interest.

To find out the winners as they are announced follow Press Gazette on Twitter . There will also be a story detailing tonight's winners on this website live from around 8.30pm.

To discuss tonight's event on Twitter use the hashtag #bja2012.

As journalistic ethics this week becomes something of a political football, the awards are a timely reminder that for all its faults – British journalism is an extraordinary force for good.
