It was heartening to learn this week that Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow put his money where his mouth was when he said that he didn’t believe in journalists suing journalists after he was libelled in the Mail on Sunday.
Now Mark Stephens, who advised Snow – but was not his lawyer – has revealed that Snow could have won £75,000 in damages if he had sued over false claims that he had a dope-smoking liaison with a younger woman.
Instead Snow settled for a prompt and prominent apology. An example to us all in these litigious times.
