Over a lengthy lunch today I was reliably informed that some small daily newspapers are actually LOSING money.
Can this really be the case? For those of us who enjoyed the boom times of the 80s, the very thought is unthinkable (yes, it was a lengthy lunch).
How can a local paper not turn a profit, albeit a modest one? The mind boggles … and the blood chills. That spiral of terminal decline might just be spinning faster than any of us expected.
