Pitch to
To me, at rosie.tanner@imagine-publish
ing.co.uk.
Type of articles
Photoshop Creative is a tutorial-based publication, which teaches its readers to use the software. Freelances need to be able to write informative tutorials as well as produce a high standard of artwork in Photoshop.
Topics
The magazine covers image editing, digital painting and in-depth tool guides, so freelances need to be proficient in these aspects of Photoshop. A clear, concise writing style is also essential.
How to pitch
Get in contact via email with examples of your Photoshop work. If you have an online portfolio then include a link to this.
Post-pitch
If you haven’t heard anything from the magazine in a few days, don’t be disheartened – often deadlines mean the editorial team doesn’t have time to reply immediately. Follow up your email a couple of days later as a reminder.
What will impress
Great artistic talent, paired with a confident writing style is what we’re looking for.
What won’t impress
Potential freelances who have made no prior effort to read or research a bit about the magazine do not make a good first impression. Likewise, a group email sent out to dozens of magazine editors can be spotted a mile off.
Rate
Freelances are paid by the page. Rates are negotiated between the editor and freelance.
Images
Photoshop Creative is an image-led title so all tutorials should be accompanied with finished artwork in a layered psd file, plus screen captures for each tutorial step.
