Duncan Campbell on crime reporting, death threats, Rusbridger and the police – Journalism Matters podcast

By Dominic Ponsford

Former Guardian crime correspondent Duncan Campbell is the latest interviewee for the Press Gazette Journalism Matters podcast.

He talks about what makes a good crime reporter, why covering crime is a great beat for journalists (“Dull it isn’t”) and how to deal with death threats. He also talks about how the determination of then editor Alan Rusbridger helped him pull off an historic libel trial victory against the Police Federation and how police relations with journalists have gone from one extreme to another.

Duncan Campbell is the author of We’ll All Be Murdered in Our Beds! The Shocking History of Crime Reporting in Britain, published by Elliott and Thompson.
