With thousands of Scousers still boycotting The Sun over its coverage of the 1989 Hillsborough disaster, you’d have thought the paper might have learnt a lesson.
Well, it may be facing a similar backlash in Blackpool after the paper’s columnist Jon Gaunt poured a bucket of bile on the resort.
“It’s a stinking dosshole†and no one should waste money in “this cesspitâ€, moans a less-than jaunty Gaunty following a trip to the town.
In a move which will doubtless delight the town’s residents and readers, the columnist described Blackpool’s Winter Gardens thus: “They smelled of damp, urine and neglect and were symbolic of the town itself.â€
Gaunty may well find himself walking the plank at the end of the pier show if he dares to show his face in the town again.
