Blogger Jack Marx was unceremoniously sacked from his job at the Sydney Morning Herald and his popular blog The Daily Truth axed after writing a satirical article about Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd. The piece, in which Marx “filled in the gaps” about Rudd’s visit to a New York strip club he claims to not remember can be read here.
Marx, a journalist and author, won a prestigious Australian journalism award in 2006 after he wrote about his ‘friendship’ with Russell Crowe and the lengths he discovered the actor was prepared to go in order to manipulate journalists.
The article, “I was Russell Crowe’s Stooge“, was voted the best newspaper feature of 2006 at the Walkley awards.
But Marx has fallen foul of Fairfax News, owners of the Sydney Morning Herald with a piece that seeks to ‘fill in the gaps’ left by Rudd’s inability to remember anything of a visit to a New York gentelman’s club in 2New York in 2003.
The SMH continues to follow the story of Rudd’s forgetfulness over his visit to the club, with this piece on his denial that he was thrown out of the club. The decision to sack Marx without warning for has caused some surprise, even among his critics.
