The editor of the Burton Mail, the Staffordshire daily, has resigned after seven years in the job.
Paul Hazeldine, who joined after 14 years on The Sun, said the decision had nothing to do with parent company Iliffe News and Media’s recent restructuring.
On Friday’s Friday, it was announced Steve Lowe, previously group editor of LSN Media, an Iliffe sub-division, would become editor-in-chief of the Iliffe News and Media Central division, which covers the Burton Mail.
Hazeldine told holdthefrontpage.co.uk: ‘I am leaving, but it’s nothing to do with anything else that has been announced. I am just retiring from journalism and doing other things.
“I will miss it tremendously. I still think it’s the best profession to be in and my time here has probably been the best seven years of my career.”
Hazeldine was chief sub-editor of The Sun’s Saturday TV magazine before joining the Mail.
Deputy editor Andrew Parker is in charge, but no permanent appointment has yet been made.
