Bangor Mail to become fully paid-for

By Andrew Pugh

Trinity Mirror is relaunching the Bangor Mail as a fully paid-for title.

The paper has undergone a redesign ahead of the relaunch on 22 August, when it will drop its current hybrid model of part paid, part free distribution. The Mail’s sister edition the Holyhead & Anglesey Mail has also been redesigned and will remain a paid-for title.

The move means that all Trinity Mirror’s North Wales titles are now paid-for, including the Caernarfon & Denbigh Herald and the North Wales Weekly News.

North Wales and Cheshire publishing director Rob Irvine said: “Bangor is a proud city with a strong character, innovative businesses and a university of high standing. It thoroughly deserves its own paid-for weekly.

‘From the reaction in the city, this is a decision that is being very well received by readers, advertisers and community leaders.”

Bangor Mail executive editor Linda Roberts added: “As a Bangor girl, born and bred, I am extremely excited to be a part of this, and am looking forward to the weeks ahead immensely.”

The Mail costs 80p and discount vouchers have been published in the final freely-distributed copies. The most recent figures from the Audit Bureua of Circulation show an average weekly circulation of 8,529, of which 1,610 copies were sold and the rest free.

Meanwhile, Trinity said that its flagship title the Daily Post Wales has also benefitted from ‘extensive investment in increased pagination and additional content’since the launch of its two-edition structure for North West and North East Wales in January.
