Police arrested Storr, Walsh and Dixon and held them for six hours
This was the moment that Zoo journalist Will Storr and BBC Ground Force presenter Tommy Walsh got carted off in a police car, after their attempt to highlight a security lapse at the Olympic Games in Athens at the weekend, writes Ruth Addicott.
Storr, photographer Hugo Dixon and Walsh – who had been asked by the magazine to help investigate building progress at the Games sites – were arrested and held in a local police cell for six hours after they were caught in the main Olympic stadium.
Storr managed to keep hold of his mobile and called editor-inchief Barry McIlheney from the cell. McIlheney was in a bar at the Cannes Film Festival and the message was passed on to Zoo editor Paul Merrill, who was at home “organising a kid’s party”.
By the time Zoo had tracked down a Greek solicitor, all three had been released.
Merrill said of Storr: “He has got a great instinct for a story and he has come up trumps this time and given us a real scoop.”
