What’s On TV hits web

By Press Gazette

What's On TV is to launch a website, whatsontv.co.uk as its latest weapon in the TV magazines war.

Launching in January next year, the site will offer users a multi-channel TV listings guide, TV news and gossip, coverage of all the major soaps, previews of the day's must-see shows, and an in-depth TV film guide.

The IPC title held on to its position at the top of the TV listings titles in the August set of ABCs, posting a circulation of 1,509,519, down 9.8 per cent year on year. Rival Bauer's TV Choice was up 11.2 per cent year on year to 1,287,773.

The website launch announcement marks the third stage in What's On TV's digital strategy, following the magazine's launch of a mobile service and the extension of the brand onto Freeview.

The What's On TV website will have a dedicated editorial team, headed up by the magazine's editor-in-chief Colin Tough. Philippa Brown, managing director of IPC tx, said the move "made perfect sense" for the title, as readers were spending an increasing amount of time online.
