Press Awards 2012: Times leads the way with 24 nominations

The Times leads the nominations league table at this year’s Press Awards – followed by the Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail.

An Italian gossip magazine today published photographs of The Duchess of Cambridge on a private Caribbean holiday reportedly showing Kate’s ‘baby bump’

"We are disappointed that photographs of the Duke and Duchess on a private holiday look likely to be published overseas. This is a clear breach of the couple's right to privacy."

Six more News of the World journalists arrested in phone-hacking probe

Officers from Operation Weeting have arrested six former News of the World journalists in relation to the phone-hacking investigation.

News International has confirmed that two of those arrested are currently employed by The Sun.

Full breakdown of magazine sales for first half of 2012

Some 255 consumer magazines audited by ABC today released their circulation figures for the first half of the year.

Free supermarket customer magazines and TV listings titles dominate the top ten.

Independent on Sunday editor axed amid moves to merge Independent and Standard editorial teams

Independent on Sunday editor John Mullin has been made redundant after five years at the title amid plans to merge it with the Monday to Saturday edition.

 “I’d like to wish all my colleagues at The Independent and Independent on Sunday all the best for the future. I think over the last five years the Independent on Sunday team has produced a bright, vibrant, energetic paper week in week out that’s always been more than the sum of its parts. I have been very proud to be editor of the Independent on Sunday – a fantastic paper with a brilliant staff. It’s very sad to leave.”

The accused: At least 55 UK journalists arrested since April 2011

At least 55 journalists have now been arrested in the last two years as a result of police investigations stemming from the phone-hacking scandal. 

Those arrested so far include at least 21 former News of the World journalists, at least 22 Sun journalists, two Mirror journalists, one former Times journalist and one Daily Star journalist.

Sun Sunday front-page shows the kiss and tell is still alive and well

A year on from the first wave of arrests at The Sun the paper showed that is still not afraid to ruffle the feathers of privacy  lawyers by publishing an old-school kiss and tell on the front page of its Sunday edition.

Such tales were a staple of the now defunct News of the World, but have becoming rare as judges have shown themselves increasingly minded to uphold interim privacy injunctions banning publication.

Trinity Mirror: No bonuses for 2012 but all staff to receive £100

Trinity Mirror has told staff that no payments will be made under its 2012 bonus scheme and that it plans to cut a further 32 non-editorial staff across its offices in Manchester, Cardiff and Birmingham.

“In recognition of everyone's efforts, and in particular in respect of the work which has gone into defining our new One Trinity Mirror strategy, I am pleased to advise that a discretionary, one-off One Trinity Mirror Bonus of £100, will be paid to all current employees.”

Mag ABCs: TV choice stays number one in top 100 list of best selling UK magazines

TV Choice was the best-selling magazine in the UK between July to December 2012, according to the latest figures released by ABC. 

Despite sales falling 5.7 per cent year on year to 1,230,076, it stayed ahead of rival TV mag What's on TV, which fell 2.5 per cent to 1,220,128. 

10 Jobs to go as Local World outsources pre-press jobs to India: 'This has not been an easy decision'

The new regional publishing joint venture Local World has announced plans to make an unconfirmed number of staff redundant in its finance and pre-press functions, including outsourcing jobs to India.

“This has not been an easy decision. I said when we announced the creation of Local World that we want to create a positive, engaging and pleasant place to work. That intention stands and these changes are an inevitable part of bringing together two businesses, not any reflection on strategy or performance.”
