Villa manager in web libel damages bid

By Sarah Limbrick

Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill has launched a battle for libel damages over a story which appeared on a football website.

O’Neill is sueing publishers 365 Media Group plc and is demanding damages of up to £50,000 over its ‘Transfer Gossip’webpage.

He claims that a story headed: ‘O’Neill locks to feeder club for keeper’last April 13 was defamatory. Now he is seeking damages and an injunction banning the Middlesex based web publisher from repeating the allegations at the centre of his claim.

O’Neill, who lives in Farnham Common, Buckinghamshire, was considered a possible for the England’s manager job at one time.
