Twisk calls time at Reader’s Digest

By Press Gazette

Russell Twisk, editor-in-chief of Reader’s Digest, is retiring after 15 years. Katherine Walker, managing editor of Reader’s Digest in the US, has been lured back to the UK as his successor.

Twisk, who joined the title in 1987, said he intends to continue writing.

"I was 60 last year and thought I should try some new things. I have been editing practically all my life.

"I am leaving the magazine in very good nick and I’m trying not to eat bananas sideways," he joked. Prior to Reader’s Digest, Twisk edited The Listener for six-and-a-half years.

He is also a former deputy editor of the Radio Times and radio critic on The Observer.

Twisk is credited for championing Reader’s Digest’s seven-year "Beachwatch" campaign to clean up Britain’s dirtiest beaches.

The title has a circulation of more than 1 million and a readership of 3.3 million.
