Trinity contests Rugby scrum with free paper

By Press Gazette

Trinity Mirror this week launched a new free weekly into the busy free newspaper market of Rugby. The Rugby Times will compete against the Rugby Observer published by Chris Bullivant's Observer Standard Newspapers and Johnston Press's Rugby Advertiser.

Launched on Tuesday, the paper is aimed at the ABC1 market and has a distribution of 35,000. Its editor is Duncan Gibbons, former chief reporter on the Coventry Evening Telegraph's Warwickshire edition.

Tony Lennox, editorial director of Trinity's 37 Midland weekly titles, said: "It is a traditional local newspaper, concentrating on purely local news."
