The Times’ Peter Brookes has been named Political Cartoonist of the Year at the twelfth Cartoon Art Trust Awards.
The Awards were held at The Mall Galleries in Westminster last night and raised £45,000 in aid of the Cartoon Museum.
The ceremony also celebrated 45 years of Private Eye and coincides with the opening of the Private Eye at 45 exhibition at The Cartoon Museum from Thursday October 26.
Brookes, who has won the award twice before, has been The Times political cartoonist since 1996. He is pictured as drawn by himself.
He won the What The Papers Say political cartoonist award last year and has contributed to titles including the New Statesmen, Radio Times and The Spectator.
Brookes draws the regular Nature Notes cartoon for the comment pages in the Saturday edition of the Times.
