The Guardian announces full colour plans

By Press Gazette

The Guardian is not only going to be the first European mid-size
format UK national newspaper in 2006 –it will be the first upmarket
national available in full colour.

Guardian Media Group has
placed a £50 million order for three MAN Roland ColarMAN presses. An
additional £12 million order has been placed for inserting and other
associated equipment.

The company is to build a new printing
centre in East London. The northern print run will be printed on one of
the three new presses to be installed at GMG’s existing Trafford Park
Printing operation in Manchester.

The Guardian is printed at
Westferry Printers, the business joint-owned by Express Newspapers and
Telegraph Group. GMG said it will end the contract in January 2007.
