Terry Potter, journalist, historian and author, has died, aged 53. Terry was found dead at his Morecambe home on August 13. He had been ill for some time.
Up until his death he was a sub for Lancaster and Morecambe Newspapers, working on all its publications including the Lancaster Guardian and The Visitor. Originally from Somerset, he worked as a reporter and sub on various papers in that area.
He moved to the North West in 1973 to work as a sub on The Visitor. He was made editor of the Longridge News and Advertiser before taking up joint editorship of both the News and the Garstang Courier, in the early Eighties.
Later he became editor of the Lakeland Echo before taking up a position as sub at Morecambe.
Visitor editor Glen Cooper, said: "We are all deeply shocked by Terry’s death. "He was a highly intelligent and caring man with a sharp wit. We shared an interest in our area and had many long discussions about its past and, indeed, its prospects for the future.
"He was great company and a hugely popular colleague. We will all miss him."
Terry is survived by his widow, Sue, children Claire, Nicholas, Lindsey and Christopher, and two grandchildren.
