Telegraph revamps sunday magazine

By Press Gazette

The Sunday Telegraph is to scrap The Sunday Telegraph Magazine and
bring in two new glossy titles for readers as part of its redesign.

Aiming
to steal some territory from The Sunday Times’ Style and Culture
sections, the title will introduce Stella, a women’s lifestyle
magazine, and Seven, a “substantial” listings, gadgets and arts
magazine, alongside the redesigned main paper on 6 November.

Editor Sarah Sands said: “We want to have two really good, durable magazines rather than throwaway sections.”

Sands
replaced Dominic Lawson as editor in June and signing fashion writer
Justine Picardie for The Sunday Telegraph Magazine was one of her first
decisions.

She said at the time that she wanted to “up the pace”
at the paper, and she is expected to go in a more female-oriented
direction in order to better compete with the Mail on Sunday and The
Sunday Times.

The new Seven magazine at the Telegraph is likely
to be compared to the Mail on Sunday’s recent relaunch of Night &
Day as Live, which has taken on a weekly formula of celebrities and
gadgets.
