Tattoo mag makes its mark

By Press Gazette

The former editor of tattoo mag Skin Deep, who left the long-running publication due to “irreconcilable differences” with her publishers, has set up a rival title, Total Tattoo, writes Alyson Fixter .

Sally Feldt, who resigned from Skin Deep in May this year, set up Total Tattoo with art director Perry Rule, who also previously worked on Skin Deep. The glossy monthly will be distributed in the US after good feedback on the first three issues.

The magazine currently has a print run of 15,000 and is sold in newsagents and tattoo parlours in the UK and Europe.

Feldt said she was aiming for a more upmarket feel than Skin Deep, and was also including alternative fashion spreads and in-depth features.

She said: “Leaving Skin Deep was a very difficult decision to make, and I didn’t want to leave tattoo magazines altogether.

“For years Skin Deep was really the only tattoo title in the UK, and that’s unusual in a market that’s so healthy, so I knew there was room out there for another one. Total Tattoo looks very different from Skin Deep. It is very clean and modern in design.”
