Sutherland and Biddulph promoted as IPC rings the changes at ignite!

By Press Gazette

The editorial director of IPC ignite!’s music brands has been promoted and is now responsible for the division’s entire portfolio.

Steve Sutherland, whose remit will now include Nuts, NME, Loaded, Uncut and NME.com, is the first editorial member of the board and will report to ignite!’s managing director Tim Brooks.

Sutherland joined IPC in 1981 and was editor of NME from 1992 to 2000.

He said: “Any editorial concerns will get heard much quicker and more efficiently now. One of the most exciting things about this promotion is that I’ll be able to work on any coming launches which is anyone’s dream in publishing and we have plenty of ideas on the horizon.”

Brooks added: “Steve has a very distinguished career at IPC and I felt it was time we brought his skills across the whole board. I am sure he has a very strong career ahead.”

NME art director Rob Biddulph has been promoted to group art director of ignite!’s music brands. Biddulph spearheaded NME’s redesign last year, which won him the PPA Designer of the Year award.

Marc Jones, associate art editor of NME, has been promoted to art editor.

Neil Robinson, publishing director of the ignite! music titles, said: “Rob has done a fantastic job for NME and this move allows him to deploy his talents right across the music titles. It’s also great for Marc that he can step up to the senior job, which again is a wellearned promotion.”

At the same time Andrew Sumner, the current publisher of Loaded and Nuts, will swap Nuts for Uncut and Tammi Iley, associate publisher of NME and Uncut, will take over responsibility for Nuts.

All changes are effective from August 1.
