The Sunday Telegraph has been forced to make another £5,000 payout to Jim Carr, father of the comedian Jimmy Carr, after it left a libellous story on its website.
Carr senior recently won £12,000 in an out-of-court settlement after the paper published an interview with his son, which Carr senior said was defamatory.
Carr borrowed the tactics of the Telegraph-owning Barclay brothers and threatened to sue the paper through the French courts. The Barclays are currently pursuing a libel case against The Times in France.
Carr's latest action signals a warning to newspapers that leave libellous articles on websites after apologies and retractions have appeared in print. He said the £5,000 settlement was agreed shortly after The Sunday Telegraph was contacted by his lawyers. He is currently involved in a separate action against the Evening Standard, again over an interview with his son.
He said: "My son has made false statements about me to various newspapers and even to the police.
"I have received apologies or damages from all concerned, save my son."
