Standard loses stalwart to sun

By Press Gazette

Friends and colleagues past and present have said farewell to Nigel Griffiths, assistant editor of the Evening Standard for more than 20 years and mainstay of the news production team for even longer. Griffiths, wizard of the page-one banner headline, is splitting his retirement between Ibiza and England. Before a true Fleet Street send-off in a Kensington watering hole, he thanked editor Veronica Wadley for her kind words in the newsroom and announced: “I’m going to do what I’ve never done in 27 years on the Evening Standard. Kiss the editor!”
