A former Sportsman journalist is planning to fund a trip his way across Australia by gambling and intends to write a book about his experiences.
Ed Hawkins is trying to recoup the £1,300 he spent on the journey before the paper closed earlier this month.
Hawkins told Press Gazette: "I can't really afford to go but because my gig at The Sportsman was as a cricket tipster, I thought the best way was to gamble. If I'm starting to lose money gambling I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do or how I'm going to eat."
He added: "I might have to go and work on a farm picking fruit if it gets really desperate. I might have to sell my clothes if it gets really bad."
