The Daily Telegraph has launched a Young Sports Writer Award for 2003. Writers from across the country between the ages of 18 and 25 are being encouraged to show their flair for sports journalism.
This is the inaugural year for the award, which will offer six finalists the opportunity to cover a major sporting event this summer. The winner will have their piece published in the paper and on sport.telegraph.co.uk. He or she will also win £500 and a week’s work experience on the sports desk.
Sports editor David Welch; Keith Perry, deputy sports editor; Paul Hayward, chief sports writer and Paul Trow, chairman of the Sports Writers Association, will judge the entries.
Entrants are initially required to write about their sporting hero in no more than 100 words. Entry forms and rules are available online at www.telegraph.co.uk/youngsportswriter.
