Magazine specialist Romsey Publishing is taking on IPC with a new title dedicated to shooting.
The 132-page mid-market title Sporting Shooter is aimed at gamekeepers and pigeon shooters – a similar readership to IPC’s Sporting Gun.
Charlie Jacoby, former news editor on IPC’s Shooting Times, is editor. He is hoping to mirror sales of Sporting Gun and said he would be content with a circulation of 30,000.
“We think there is room for two magazines in this market,” he told Press Gazette. “We feel Sporting Shooter has a slightly younger feel, it’s noisier and it’s got much more in it per page. The country is a very small place and we have a different approach, but we are aiming for the same reader.”
James Marchington, former editor of Gun Mart, is managing editor and Simon Fevyer, who worked on Shooting Times with Jacoby in the midNineties, is designer.
Sporting Shooter launches on 9 October, priced £2.85. It will come out on the second Thursday of every month.
