Sky News has won the Bafta news coverage of the year award for the second year running.
This year it won for its coverage of the Soham murders. Nick Pollard, head of Sky News, said: “This was a particularly tragic story and our thoughts are still with the families of Holly and Jessica. I think we told the story powerfully and compassionately.”
Earlier this year, Sky won the Royal Television Society’s news event of the year award for its Soham coverage.
Channel 4 cleaned up in the current affairs and factual categories, winning all four awards. The documentary Young, Nazi & Proud, made by Steve Boulton Productions, won the current affairs award; The Trust, a series on the NHS produced by Hart Ryan Productions, won the Huw Wheldon award for factual series; the documentary opera Feltham Sings, made by Century Films, picked up the Flaherty documentary award, and the features Bafta went to Faking It, made by RDF Media.
BBC1’s coverage of the final night of athletics at the Commonwealth Games won the sport award.
The Alan Clark award for outstanding contribution to television went to veteran documentary makers Brian Lapping and Norma Percy, of Brooke Lapping Productions.
