Sky political editor issues poem apology

By Press Gazette

Sky News political editor Adam Boulton has apologised after it emerged that a racist poem sent out on an email had also been posted on his Sky News blog.

The issue arose after Sky News broke the story of how a racially offensive poem entitled the Illegal Immigrants Poem was forwarded from the email of Ellenor Bland, a Conservative councillor in Wiltshire and a parliamentary candidate at the last election. Bland was suspended as a Conservative candidate and party member.

Later, Sky News's Jon Craig reported that one of the channel's viewers had spotted the same poem on Conservative MP Boris Johnson's blog in May. Johnson issued an apology, saying: "The poem is utterly dreadful and I condemn it unreservedly. I had absolutely no idea of it being on my website."

It was then revealed that the poem had also been posted on Boulton's blog in May. Boulton wrote: "I apologise unreservedly. It is not the sort of material that I regard as fair or constructive comment and I should not have inadvertently put it up."
