Sky News set for video-rich web relaunch

By Press Gazette

Sky News is set to launch a new-look website later this week, as the first phase of a year-long overhaul of sky.com/news into a video-rich site with a focus on breaking news.

The new site will allow users to watch live news events such as press conferences and speeches online, as well as increasing the amount video content available – providing users with a library of video news from Sky News TV.

As part of the redevelopment Sky News has employed a number of senior journalists, and is continuing to employ both editorial and technical staff as the site develops. It is currently advertising for a number of roles in its showbiz online department and a managing editor for its online business.

Andrew Hawken, Sky editorial director, online, joined Sky last autumn from msn.com.

He said: "[The changes] are just the first phase of a plan to bring the same sense of ambition Sky News has brought to television, to the web. Our intention is – incrementally – to create a richer site for breaking news and information that will encourage users to find out more about what is going on in the world."
