Scottish political editors move on

By Press Gazette

The departure of Scotland on Sunday political editor Jason Allardyce to The Sunday Times Scotland has sparked a game of musical chairs among political editors north of the border.

Eddie Barnes, political editor of the Scottish Daily Mail, will replace Allardyce on SoS, while his post will be filled by Ian Smith, who is currently Westminster editor of the Scottish Daily Record.

Meanwhile, an appointment is expected shortly on The Herald to replace Scottish political editor Murray Ritchie, who is retiring early in the new year.

Speculation at Holyrood suggests that former Daily Mirror political editor Peter McMahon is in the frame for Ritchie’s job.

Other contenders are believed to include Andy Nicoll of the Scottish Sun, Neil Rafferty of The Sunday Times Scotland, and Ritchie’s current number two, Robbie Dinwoodie.
