The life of former Daily Mirror owner Robert Maxwell is be turned into a Hollywood film to be produced by the man behind Wall Street and American Psycho.
The film will be adapted from play Lies Have Been Told, currently showing in London's West End. Film producer Edward R. Pressman, who also produced current independent film release Thank You For Smoking, will be behind the film adaptation.
After seeing the play Pressman said: "Maxwell's story is Citizen Kane meets Wall Street".
Pressman secured rights to the play with the producer of the play Dale Djerassi, former husband of Maxwell's daughter Isabel.
Djerassi said: "From his humble beginnings, bravery on the battlefield in World War Two, boardroom battles on both sides of the Atlantic to his mysterious death when he went overboard from his yacht, Robert Maxwell's life and death are a tale of epic proportions."
Pressman and Djerassi are currently in London meeting with directors and screenwriters to develop a movie version of the one-man play written by Rod Beacham.
In November 1991 Maxwell disappeared overboard from his luxury yacht off the Canary Islands. Investigators discovered he had misappropriated millions of pounds from his companies and their pension plans. The official verdict was accidental drowning but rumours suggested he had committed suicide or been murdered by secret agents or the Russian mafia.
