Broadcaster Yvonne Ridley has told an employment tribunal of the ‘undermining, humiliation and manipulation’at the Islam Channel, which she is suing for sex discrimination, and religious discrimination and constructive dismissal.
Ridley said the pressure at the Islam Channel was more stressful than being kidnapped by the Taliban in 2001.
‘In 30 years working in the rough and tumble of the media, including 10 years on Fleet Street, I experienced nothing like this. I simply could not cope with this constant undermining, humiliation and manipulation,’Ridley said.
Ridley resigned from the channel in April 2007 after a series of rows with boss Mohammed Ali Harrath, who she is also suing.
Her current affairs show, Agenda, was axed and she was offered other roles at the channel which Ridley claims downgraded her position, forcing her to resign. The tribunal in London is set to recommence on 11 February for three days.
