Crispin Davis, chief executive officer of Reed Elsevier, was made a knight for services to information and publishing.
Davis joined Reed Elsevier as chief executive in September 1999. He was chief executive officer of Aegis Group from 1994 to 1999. Prior to that he worked at Guinness Group as group managing director of United Distillers.
“This is a surprise but it is recognition for everyone at Reed Elsevier,” said Davis.
Helen Alexander, chief executive of the Economist Group, was made a CBE for services to publishing. Alexander joined the group in 1984 and was appointed chief executive in January 1997. She was managing director of the Economist Intelligence Unit from 1993 until 1996.
Alexander is also a non-executive director of Centrica plc, a trustee of the Tate Gallery, and an honorary fellow of Hertford College, Oxford.
Linda Thomas, editor-in-chief, Royal College of Nursing Publishing Company received an OBE for services to nursing.
