The Racing Post has launched its own weekly sports betting
supplement months ahead of the planned launch of national daily betting
paper The Sportsman.
The Sportsman is due to launch in the spring and will be a seven-day-a-week operation covering all aspects of betting.
According
to the parent company, Trinity Mirror, the launch of RPSPORT on
Saturday was the “biggest single change to the structure of the Racing
Post since it was launched nearly 20 years ago”.
Like The
Sportsman, RPSPORT covers all aspects of sports betting – including
football, rugby, cricket, snooker and darts. The first edition was 36
pages.
Racing Post editor Chris Smith said: “RPSPORT is one of
the most exciting innovations in the history of the Racing Post
operation. Our sports section has been growing and expanding for years,
but this is taking it not just one step further, but two or three.
“Not
only is it fresher and more comprehensive than anything available
anywhere else, it also introduces two stunning new services. No other
publication has ever done anything approaching our new sport on TV
listings section.
“The other major newcomer is the Markets
service, which for the first time brings together in one at-a-glance
section all the prices available from different bookmakers in all
markets for betting on sport.”
The Sportsman has been recruiting
heavily in recent weeks and a launch has been promised some time before
the football World Cup kicks off in June.
