The Newspaper Society has joined forces with experienced
journalists, editors and training centres in the industry to set out
new standards for multimedia and print journalism training.
The
Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) funded review will create
levels for benchmarks for vocational skills while underpinning the
skills needed for journalists.
Discussions into the review will take place over the next five years.
Once
the standards are accepted by the industry and approved by the QCA,
they will enable qualifications to be created that can sit on the
National Qualification Framework, making them eligible for funding from
the Learning and Skills Council.
Skills for magazine, newspaper,
online photography, photojournalism, subbing and community journalism
will be covered in the study.
Preliminary reviews have been carried out and will continue throughout November.
