The Laurence Stern Fellowship, which gives a UK journalist a chance to work for The Washington Post, is to be awarded earlier this year because of the possibility of a second Gulf War.
The closing date for entries is 18 February and the winner will be announced on 24 February.
Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by Ben Bradlee, vice-president-at-large of the Post. The winner will work on the paper’s national desk in Washington for three months this summer. He or she will be paid a salary by the Post, and the Fellowship will provide the airfare and a modest sum for travel in the US.
Journalists who work in print, radio, television or the web can apply. There is no age restriction, but the intention is to appoint a young journalist who has already acquired experience of important national stories.
