Post & Echo’s Penny enters features Fray

By Press Gazette

The women’s editor of the Liverpool Post & Echo has been promoted to deputy features editor.

Penny Fray’s new responsibilities will be similar but she will now help with the editing process at peak periods, as well as running the department when the features editor is away.

She said: “It’s an exciting time for Liverpool, what with it becoming the capital of culture. However, the newspaper will cover the rest of its regions, such as Cheshire and Wirral, just as extensively as before while celebrating the success of Liverpool.”

Fray is a former trainee lawyer who joined the Liverpool Echo in October 1998. After spending approximately nine months as a graduate trainee in both the Daily Post and Liverpool Echo newsrooms, she was appointed feature writer for the Daily Post in July 1999 and then women’s editor in May 2003.

Her specialist subjects include health, beauty, fashion, lifestyle and women’s issues for the Merseyside, Cheshire and Wirral editions of the newspaper as well as writing a wide range of general features.

Before splitting from the Welsh edition of the Daily Post in March 2003, she was responsible for writing and editing the Welsh arts pages as well as providing a celebrity gossip column called Penny’s People.
