Fashion director Katie Grand has won the award for publishing and journalism at The Hospital Awards founded by media hub The Hospital to honour the most creative individuals working in the media and arts in the UK.
Grand launched Dazed & Confused in 1992, with fellow students Rankin Waddell and Jefferson Hack. She worked as Fashion Director at Dazed & Confused and later moved to The Face where she remained until October 2001. She launched the bi-annual fashion and art magazine POP in 2000 where she is currently Editor-in-chief of POP.
The panel of judges for the Publishing and Journalism Awards included ex IPC editorial director Mike Soutar, Observer editor Roger Alton and broadcaster and columnist Miranda Sawyer. Soutar said: "Katie Grand established a new magazine, Pop, which in only three years has become one of the most influential and progressive in its field. And it has achieved all of this without a penny of marketing investment. Not only does it push boundaries,provoke and stimulate its readers, it has become a central brand for the fashion industry it serves. Our winner proudly boasts that it is the world's first 'Superglossy' ".
