Plans for Asian women’s monthly

By Press Gazette

Backing is being sought for a new magazine for professional Asian women which hopes to launch on news-stands early next year, writes Ruth Addicott.

Publisher Sheila Pereira is trying to pull together a team to pursue the idea for the monthly consumer title.

Pereira, who was among a group of women recently chosen to guest edit an edition of Good Housekeeping, said the magazine, if it launched, would be called Sitarée, the Hindu word for “stars” and carry the strapline “For the woman who never stops shining”.

She said it would contain lighthearted lifestyle content, feature Western writers who had been influenced by Indian teaching and include coverage of more hard-hitting issues ignored by existing titles.

“It will certainly deal with controversial issues. I am not going to be scared of sensitive subjects such as abuse,” Pereira said, who turned to freelance journalism after a career in property.
