Picture row over Barca kit linesman

By Press Gazette

A Norwegian newspaper is considering legal action against several British papers in a copyright dispute over photos of the man due to be a linesman at the Barcelona-Arsenal match last week.

Two days before the Champions League final, Drammens Tidende published a picture of Uefa Champions League linesman Ole Hermann Borgan wearing a Barcelona shirt.

Borgan was due to officiate during the game, but was replaced following the publication of the photograph.

Editor Hans Odde said: "We received a question about that from a Norwegian newspaper that told us that the picture of Mr Borgan was published in an English newspaper in spite [of the fact] that we said no, we didn't want to sell it.

"After that we had a discussion, but the last thing I heard about it was that we wanted to take action. We haven't finished the discussion yet because we want to get the facts clear. As far as I know, several English newspapers asked to buy the photograph and we declined."

Odde would not name specific UK newspapers, but the photograph appeared in The Sun (pictured) and the Daily Star on Wednesday, 17 May.
