Photojournalist took his own life

By Press Gazette

The family of British freelance photojournalist Richard Mills have said the ‘suffering and extreme hardship’that he witnessed during his career had been too much for him to bear.

The 41-year-old photographer, who had worked for The Times since 2000, and had covered conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, was found dead on 14 July in his hotel room in Zimbabwe, where he was on an undercover assignment.

Unions and press freedom campaign groups this week withdrew their calls for an inquiry into his death, after the family accepted the results of a post-mortem which found he took his own life.
