Philps ousted as Coughlin made Tele foreign ed

By Press Gazette

A year after returning to Telegraph Group Con Coughlin has been promoted to foreign editor.

Coughlin left the Sunday Telegraph last year and briefly worked for the Daily Mail. But he returned to the Daily Telegraph in October last year, as defence and security editor.

He replaces Alan Philps who has already left the paper and joined the Telegraph 15 years ago.
Coughlin originally joined Telegraph Group in 1980 and has worked as a foreign correspondent at a variety of locations.

Telegraph Group editor-in-chief, and acting editor of the daily title, John Bryant said: “Con is a journalist par excellence for our times. His skills and expertise are right at the heart of the foreign, defence and security issues that confront us daily. His brilliant reports, comment and analysis for the Telegraph will keep us out in front when it comes to covering these issues.

“As executive foreign editor – roving across a huge brief, of great importance to our readers – he will be a tremendous asset to the paper.”
