Talkshow host and Daily Telegraph sports columnist Michael Parkinson has been made president of the Sports Journalists’ Association of Great Britain. He succeeds Chris Brasher, the former Olympic gold medal-winning athlete and Observer sports writer, who died last year.
At the group’s annual meeting last week, Sunday Times journalist Peter Wilson was re-elected chairman and the general committee was re-elected en bloc, with the exception of Bill Bateson, who asked to stand down and was replaced by freelance television sports journalist Philip Barker.
