The Oxford Courier Journal has relaunched and reverted to the original names of its two editions, following a takeover by Tri Media Publishing.
The paper has merged its four editions, previously named the North/ West/ South Oxford Courier Journals and Oxford City Journal, and the new editions have been renamed the Oxford Journal and the South Oxfordshire Courier.
Group editor Lawrence Webb said: “A couple of years ago, the previous owners decided in their wisdom to amalgamate the names bafflingly to the Oxford Courier Journal, which sounds like something from Toronto.
"I was pleased to go back to the original names and do just two editions, one for the north of the county and one for the south. Historically, the Journal is stronger in the north and the Courier stronger in the south.”
The paper has tried to establish a more modern design with new fonts and mastheads, while extending its entertainment coverage to attract a younger readership.
Webb added: “We intend to give our readers, new and old, all their favourite features, but wrapped up in a modern, funky package that aims to be as appealing to those much sought-after ABC1s under 35, as it is to families and older folk.”
