Original FM to bring 24-hour local news to Aberdeen

By Press Gazette

Canadian media giant Canwest has beaten competition from three other applicants to win the FM licence for Aberdeen.

Original FM will be the broadcaster's third UK station and promises to operate a 24-hour local newsroom.

The station is expected to cover a potential audience of up to 250,000 adults.

Canwest was the first foreign broadcaster to win a radio licence from Ofcom. It launched its first station, Original 106 in Southampton, in October, with a station in Bristol due to launch this year.

Original FM Aberdeen's launch will be overseen by group programme director John Evington.
