The Scott Trust, which owns Guardian Media Group, will meet some time in September or October to decide on the fate of the Observer.
It has been widely reported that GMG is considering closing the Observer to stem mounting losses for the group and safeguard the future of the title.
Press Gazette has been highlighting the case for saving the paper and putting its support behind the paper’s journalists. Around 80 journalists are solely dedicated to The Observer and many more work in joint Guardian, Observer and online teams.
The Observer is believed to be the world’s oldest Sunday newspaper. It reported on the death of Mozart and still sells around 400,000 copies a week.
